In many societies, there is a growing emphasis on individualism, with people prioritizing their personal goals and desires over collective interests.

Is this is a positive or negative development?

Individualism is a hot topic nowadays and now more than ever individuals give emphasis to their own targets rather than those of society. I believe it is a negative development because it reduces not only our chances to counter the life threating challanges for humanity but also the stability in the general public.

The most important reason why collabration among citizenzry should be emphasised is because this enhances the probability of us a human race to fight the those issues which can lead to disaster otherwise. There are various examples in history where humans have faced and overcome difficult situation as a group which would've not been possible if we hadn't collabrated. For instance, after the second world war citizens from many countries pressurised their governments to open the borders for the assylum seekers in the aftermath of the war. If these individuals just thought about themselves then one could only imagine the scary situations these emmigrants might have to face. Hence, people should look for the benefits of others as well.

Furthermore, thinking about only own intereset potentially leads to enhanced instability in the society. If people only think about themselves then they might tend to interact less with others which could led to situations where when these not so socially confortable persons confront each other, they might turn this interaction into a conflict because they might not have previous experience of interacting. A study from one of the prestigious institutes of North America suggested that there was a direct relation found in the social behaviour of 1000 specimen of this study that the chances of people who thought of their own interest was more to fight others during the social interactions compared to those who were confortable with general gatherings.

In conclusion, as thinking about own goals over collective interests reduces our survival chances against other problems and it also reduces the stability in the general public, hence, I believe this is a negative development.
