Sustainable living and decreasing the negative effect on the nature are the two hot topics nowadays. I believe reliance of general public on the non-renewable energy sources is responsible in preventing the spread of a balance lifestyle. In my opinion, individuals should make efforts to reduce their carbon footprint in order to contribute to save the environment.
The most important factor halting the spreading of sustainable lifestyle is our dependance on the non-renewable energy resources. The energy source that are used todays, similar to fossil fuels, are non-regenrable, which means that we only have a finite amount of them. For example, a study conducted by a famous University in Canada shows that average resident consumes more than 2000 units of electricity each year, and the amount of coal burnt to generate this electricity is more than 20000 Kg. The same study also suggests that if the same trend continues than the coal reserves of the world will be depleted in coming centuries.
People should try to reduce their carbon footprint in orde to save the environment. The more fossil fuels we use, the more carbon is emmited to the nature which contributes to damage the eco system. One way of reducing the carbon footprint is the use of bicycle instead of using car for daily commute. An example of this was seen in the city of New Delhi, India, where people decided to use cars only 3 days a week to their work. Remaining days of the week they either do the car-pooling or take the public transport. This has resulted in the reduction of pollution level by 5 percent.
In conclusion, our heavily dependance on the fossil fuel is halting us from moving to the non-renewable energy sources which, I believe, can be countered by people on the individual basis by reducing the amount of carbon they release in the nature.
